Current research states that the greatest determining factor of success later in life for children is not intelligence, social status, upbringing, athletic ability or financial background. Instead, it is an intangible quality: grit. Tenacity is the thing that will determine success more than anything else. What does that mean? It is different to every single … Continue reading Grit
Part of the reason I love @crossfittraining is the aspect of competition. The competition with self, friends, teammates, strangers, rivals, etc. I love to compete, pretty much in anything. Competition brings out the best in those around and it shows you their weaknesses. Competing allows me to poke and prod, to get under my teams skin, to see if they hold back, they go too hard, or if they know how to leave it all on the line. It’s always a test, just like in life. Everything is a test. Today is the first time in the past couple of years that I have been able to do something I used to to almost every week. Today I was able to organize and execute a comp WOD. It’s usually a high skill, mod/high weight workout with a significant team component. I’ve missed these. I love team workouts, I love competition, I love talking trash, I love getting it back. Thank you to those of you who made today happen. This may become a more regular occurrence in the future. This is not for 99% of the population and there is nothing wrong with that. This is strictly for those looking to compete at a very high level and can complete most of not all workouts as prescribed.
Potential. We are all full of potential. We are all full of ideas. Everyone shows up and slays when it’s all good. Everyone will reap the rewards when the wind is filling their sails and the wins come easy. What about when there is no wind? When you lose? When you are told no? When the scale doesn’t change? This is where 99% of people quit. They try something different as soon as it gets hard, they spread out their effort across many things guaranteeing failure and excuse. I do not do what I do because of anything special. I never quit. I will never give up. My will is relentless. My drive is stronger than any obstacle. I have been told for years I am not good enough, smart enough, strong enough, fill in the blank. I just didn’t quit. That’s the special talent. I have failed long enough to begin succeeding. If you want your dreams to be realized stop quitting when it gets hard, stop spreading out your energy into bullshit side things and focus. Risk failing big. What’s going to happen? You fail? Ok, guess what none of it comes with you and you can only fail if you’re trying! No one has it all figured out so stop comparing to everyone else and live your own damn life! Now go get what’s yours, you’ll have to take it no one is giving it away willingly.
Happy Valentine’s Day @emlor87 Sometimes I suck, like today. I don’t usually miss big stuff, just a bunch of small stuff. Little annoying things. Usually this falls to her, I never take that for granted, that she will be there to hold it together because I let it slip. We don’t have a lot of mushy love even though I try but what we do have is the ability to tell each other how it is without fear of inappropriate anger or resentment. She enjoys be loved hard from a distance, and I respect that about her. She challenges me, makes me better in all aspects, and she is extremely thoughtful. Love isn’t always pretty. It is tumultuous and painful at times. Emily I love you. I like you. You are my person.
